A Rich History
The history of the Riley Children’s Foundation goes all the way back to 1921. Originally founded as The Riley Memorial Association, it was formed by the famed Indiana poet James Whitcomb Riley. At first, this organization worked to preserve artifacts of the poet’s life, such as James Riley’s home, but it gradually moved toward venerating his respect for children.
In 1924, this organization built the Riley Hospital for Children, beginning the organization’s mission to care for as many children in need as it can. Today, children suffering from disabilities or childhood diseases come here to receive treatment. In order to foster self-sufficiency and self-esteem, this organization also offers Camp Riley to help children thrive in a friendly environment.
