Ford F-150: The First Generation

The Ford F-150 had humble beginnings when it was first introduced in 1948. At first this vehicle was known as the Ford F-1 and it was an impressive advancement in post-WWII truck technology. With such great utility at the time, this truck quickly became a success with many drivers looking for more storage space.

Ford F-150: The Second Generation

We saw some major advancements with the Ford F-150 by the time the second generation was released in 1953. This vehicle was particularly notable for going through a name change. No longer was this vehicle the F-1, it was now the Ford F-100.

As for the engineering of the vehicle, drivers saw a major change in the engine used with this vehicle as Ford introduced its new 239 CID Overhead Valve Y-Block V8 engine. This engine was so capable that it had earned the name “Power King” from enthusiasts.

Ford F-150: The Fourth Generation

One of the most important generations of the Ford F-150 is the fourth generation, released in 1961. That’s because it introduced the impressive Twin-I-Beam front suspension, which remained a part of this truck until 2016. This feature allowed the front wheels to spin at different speeds, so you could enjoy greater handling on clear roads.

In 1965 this generation also saw an update that introduced a 4-door model, so that families could be brought along inside.

Ford F-150: The Sixth Generation

What really made the Ford F-150 stand above the competition was when it entered its sixth generation in 1973. That’s because this truck enhanced everything with improved front disc brakes and air conditioning.

However, the truly impressive feature of this generation was that it introduced the SuperCab cabin, which provided a smaller, 4-door cabin that allowed for a best-of-both-worlds situation with the cabin and cargo bed.

Ford F-150: The Tenth Generation

Released in 1997, the tenth generation Ford F-150 proudly marked the 50th anniversary of the creation of this historic truck. This generation was built to be sleeker and more stylish than previous generations. As for performance, this generation was upgraded with an independent front suspension for greater handling while moving on rougher roads.

Ford F-150: The Thirteenth Generation 2016 Ford F-150

At last we get to the current, thirteenth generation of the Ford F-150. This generation introduced a number of new additions including an available 3.5L V6 engine. Best of all, tons of new technology was added including a variety of active safety features to keep drivers safe by helping to avoid accidents entirely.
